Illinois Street Reconstruction
Fairbanks, Alaska

Illinois Street is a vital transportation corridor within the city of Fairbanks as it provides primary access to downtown Fairbanks from the north side of town and has a rich history in the growth and development of Fairbanks as a modern city.

Variations of the project have been in the planning stages for more than 25 years. The goal of this project is to improve safety and capacity throughout the corridor; USKH developed concepts to meet that goal and a preferred alternative was selected. USKH wrote the EA for this project, and a FONSI was signed by the FHWA on July 6, 2005.

Issues for the project included Section 106 and Section 4(f) impacts, contamination, air and noise analysis, floodplain coordination, landscape architecture, right-of-way acquisition, water quality and intense public involvement.
