Summary of Position (general responsibility and purpose):
Assist in the development and design of project drawings, details, and specifications within budget and on time, in accordance with current Civil Engineering knowledge and practices. The purpose of this position is to provide professional, technical day-to-day support, guidance, coordination, and input to other project team members.
Educational/Skill/Specialization Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and/or Masters degree in Civil Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (ABET) college or university. Possess an EIT certificate, and 2-4 years of experience. Advanced knowledge and experience using computer-aided design and drafting programs using the company standard versions of AutoCAD, spreadsheets (Excel) and word processing programs (MS Word).
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Under close and frequent supervision, this position assists engineers by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments, subsequently acquiring familiarity with the programs, staff, and operating procedures of the company.
This position performs assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
Design arterial roadways for municipalities. Signing, striping, traffic signal, and street light design are possible responsibilities.
Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
Performs civil design calculations, sketches, technical comparisons, and similar technical work as required, by assignment, for their division. Reviews drawings supplied by vendors, clients, engineers, and architects and recommends necessary changes.
Researches code issues and works with city, state, and county officials. Researches design options and documents findings for Project Engineers and/or Project Managers. Performs plan drafting using AutoCAD software.
