Company History

USKH Inc. was founded in 1972 in Alaska, when three friends looked at the design firms around them and said “We can do that!” Gordon Unwin, Leo von Scheben, and Earl Korynta represented civil engineering and land surveying. With the addition of Jim Huettl, an architect, USKH’s full service, multidiscipline identity was born.

Today, the firm continues to expand, has completed thousands of projects, and has more than 130 employees in offices throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.  Despite our growth, we haven’t lost the spirit of our four founders.

“We were young, chasing our dreams, and having fun doing it.” – Earl Korynta, P.E., on founding USKH with Gordon, Leo, and Jim.

We’re not all young, but we’re still chasing dreams and having fun. And, of course, we’re designing the kind of projects that make a difference – in our lives, our clients’ lives, and the lives of everyone in our communities.
